Take too long to pack and load up the car.
Question decision to take scenic route.
Frown upon the car nap that only latest one hour for the kids.
Make an extremely long pit stop to let oldest child use restroom and buy a few snacks for the road (including repurchasing those fabulous thermos sippy cups you left at home in the freezer.)
Throw all plans out the window for evening, as the scenic route has taken too long. (This may include a celebratory birthday dinner for the head of the house.)
Arrive at hotel.
Confirm crib for youngest child.
Attempt to unpack while kids are going bat-@@@@ crazy from extended time in car.
Eat dinner 3.5 hrs later than usual. On a hotel bed with white linens.
Call front desk to question arrival of crib.
Find out there's no crib, and hear the words "hopefully tomorrow."
Avoid the urge to ram your head into the wall repeatedly, as you did not plan back up. (And this possibility was already discussed at home.)
Spend 30 minutes on phone calling surrounding stores to be certain they have a pack-n-play IN STOCK.
Arrive at store.
Make $54.12 unbudgeted purchase on pack-n-play.
Receive call from husband en route to hotel affirming front desk has called and a crib is "on the way."
Verify that the time is 10:14pm.
Set up crib in closet as to ensure disrupted sleep for all.
(Finally) get everyone down to bed by 11:00pm.
Asleep by 11:30pm.
